Be A Woman Who Makes History and Does Not Become History

It seems like a couple of times a month I am retweeting or reposting a plea for a young woman to come home to her family. She has gone missing without notice and the people who love her desperately want her to return. Within days, or weeks. A body is found. A significant other is arrested. A family is devastated. The cycle is repeated and it made me think.

Hurt people really do hurt people. Broken people break people.

I want all of my ladies to stay safe. I want them to love hard. But I also want them to live.

We make jokes about intuition, but discernment is not a gift to be mistrusted or taken for granted. Do not even joke about violence. Threats of violence and abuse are not cute and they are not a confirmation of love. They are just what there are, threats of violence. My godmother always taught me to move carefully and never react. If you feel as though leaving a relationship may cause harm, please seek professional guidance.

It’s sad to say that the law does not necessarily ensure safety. It takes a village and provisions that if you are fortunate enough to have access to, please try to connect with as much positivity as you can. I am no expert but there are plenty of professionals who are able to give you solid advice that can make the difference in life or death. No one deserves to be treated less than your worth just for attention. Love does not work like that. Love also does not demand your self-esteem, dignity, and light. Love is not worth your life.
