The magnificent album created by the incomparable Solange Knowles called A Seat At The Table has a song called “Where Do We Go”. That is a relevant question. Between racial tension being at an all-time high, the most controversial presidency this generation has ever seen, along with the fact that we are over-educated and underpaid is a recipe for disaster. I will be completely honest. Somebody really messed us up and we are blamed for trying to sort out the mess. We have literally no choice but to get our lives together and figure out what we can each contribute to society to raise awareness and take a stance against the many issues that plague our people and our communities.

There is a piercing cry for help and you can choose to ignore with hope that someone else will answer, or you can even sit behind your computer on social media and be a voice for all that is wrong with the world and that’s the extent of your reach. If you are really awake you’re trying to figure out what you need to do to alleviate some of the issues in the world. Are you volunteering? Are you organizing, are you reaching out to community leaders and politicians? Are you a leader in the community?

Are you taking steps to be fully informed before you take action? Where are you in your journey of service? You need to answer that call. As many men and women did before us, and who in some cases did not have a choice, we have to do what we can to lift others up. After all, that is why we are here. To live a life that is pleasing means to live a life of service. No one is asking any one person to bear the burden of the entire African-American community. We have to work together so that where we go from here is a positive place.

Me? I am in a place where I recognize and understand the atrocities in the world but I am trying to figure out how to get it going and make a change. We need each other and the sooner we recognize this, the better off the entire world will be. I know this and you know and this we need a resolution. QUICKLY!
