A Pre-Existing Condition

I am a black woman.

I am a walking pre-existing condition. Seriously.

Just in case you’ve been under a rock. The House of Representatives recently voted to essentially repeal Obamacare and replace it with a bill that undoes the advancements of its predecessor.

What is a pre-existing condition? According to CNN, a short list includes,

Acne,Acromegaly, AIDS or ARC, Alzheimer’s Disease, Amyotrophic Lateral SclerosisAnemia (Aplastic, Cooley’s, Hemolytic, Mediterranean or Sickle Cell),Anxiety, Aortic or Mitral Valve Stenosis, Arteriosclerosis, Arteritis Asbestosis,Asthma, Bipolar disease, Cancer, Cardiomyopathy, Cerebral Palsy (infantile), Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Cirrhosis of the Liver, Coagulation Defects, Congestive Heart Failure, Cystic Fibrosis, Demyelinating Disease, Depression, Dermatomyositis, Diabetes, Dialysis, Esophageal Varicosities, Friedreich’s Ataxia, Hepatitis (Type B, C or Chronic), Menstrual irregularities, Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy, Myasthenia Gravis, Obesity, Organ transplants, Paraplegia, Parkinson’s Disease, Polycythemia Vera, Pregnancy, Psoriatic Arthritis, Pulmonary Fibrosis, Renal Failure, Sarcoidosis, Scleroderma, Sex reassignment, Sjogren’s Syndrome, Sleep apnea, Transsexualism, Tuberculosis. It’s me….and its you. It’s a long list of every ailment there is. Under the ACHA, I would not be allowed to receive affordable insurance. I am not the healthiest or unhealthiest person, but I when i need to go to the hospital, it’s usually serious and very expensive.  The only ones who really win are the people who voted for this, stand by this, and most importantly, don’t need this. It saddens me to see such blatant disregard for human life and care that it almost seems unreal. 

I am a minority, two times over, This bill is not for me. God forbid, if i lose my job and had to really on this plan, i would not find decent coverage and it would definitely not be enough for me to be able to insure myself and my future kids.

But this is the work of a man with an agenda that does not include the American people. He has belittled women, the disabled, veterans and even his own family, but he was deemed fit to run the free world. It will never make sense to me. If President Obama  committed half the acts his successor does, says half of the things he says, took half has many vacations he has, we would be discussing impeachment hearings. Yet in a matter of a few months his successor has tried to undo his work because of his own personal disdain.

The fact that people are supporting and standing behind him sickens me. Even the representatives in my state that voted for this bill will hear from me. I will also reach out to my senators to discourage them from voting on this asinine piece of legislature. Blackbirds, I encourage you all to do the same.

I am not limited by my conditions. The American people need a break, and deserve so much better than for their tax dollars to fund something that does not benefit them. Be the change, force the change.
